There is nothing better than talking to your friends and classmates on the College's dime. (Of course, we will ask that you talk about the Annual Fund/Warren Wilson College Fund at some point!) We'll pull together a list of your classmates before you come. Phonathon is held each February, and we'd love to have you join us! Contact Miranda Hipple by email or (828) 771-2088 to learn more.
Class Agents help keep fellow alumni connected with the College. This includes writing letters, making phone calls to classmates, and encouraging support to the Annual Fund/Warren Wilson College Fund. If you'd like to be a class agent, contact Tracy Bleeker by email or (828) 771-2039.
The college has a network of volunteers who provide vital support to the Warren Wilson admission effort in their communities. These volunteers provide personal contact with prospective students and those who advise prospective students (i.e., parents, guidance counselors, teachers, ministers, etc.) Admission Volunteers - AVs - can then identify students who are good potential candidates for admission to WWC and make referrals to the Admission Office. The faculty and staff are also involved in the effort to attract quality students to WWC. At your recommendation a professor, coach, student, etc., can contact a particularly interested prospective student who has specific questions or special gifts.
Each year the Admission Office staff visits many secondary schools to inform both prospective students and guidance counselors about WWC. Admission volunteers, by maintaining friendly contacts with area schools can enhance the effectiveness of the Admission staffs' visits and are ideally positioned to keep a "finger on the pulse" of the special strengths of each school. While we are in town, the Admission Staff will meet with you to discuss how to make WWC's recruiting efforts more fruitful in your area. AVs also supply current WWC materials (viewbooks, catalogs, posters, brochures), to schools and churches.
Each year during the fall and spring, the Admission Office organizes receptions in selected areas for prospective students and their parents. These gatherings give the staff and volunteers an opportunity to talk with students and their parents in a more relaxed atmosphere. Most often, they are held in a central public location. You will be invited to attend in your area and perhaps act as a resource in planning the event. AVs can also attend college fair programs which are usually held in the fall or spring at high schools and churches. These programs expose prospective students, interested parents, and guidance counselors to a number of colleges at one time. College fairs are usually in the evening and last 2 to 3 hours.
The Admission Office provides a Coordinator and student crew support for the AV program. The Coordinator provides periodic training or review sessions for the volunteers on campus and around the country. The Coordinator supplies volunteers with a handbook, current admission materials, and advice regarding when and who to visit. The Coordinator also provides follow-up to all requests and recommendations resulting from AV contacts. The Admission toll-free telephone line, 1-800-934-3536, provides easy access to the AV Coordinator, Sharon Lytle '78, for volunteers as well as prospective students. If you would like to volunteer, call Sharon or email her at slytle@warren-wilson.edu.
